WeCodeKC
WeCodeKC is an initiative that serves the urban core of Kansas City, exposing technology, cyber security, and computer science concepts to underrepresented youth, girls and women. Learning the basic concept of coding develops creativity, problem solving skills, builds confidence and helps to build a positive future. Every child, no matter their zip code or their family’s financial status, should have the opportunity to learn to code.
We will follow the CoderDojo concept using Scratch to teach youth ages seven to seventeen how to code, understand definitions and behaviors of coding values and create video games, apps, build websites, as well as explore technology, cyber security and robotics.
Student Presentations: Each Session we take time for 2 or 3 students to show off their recent projects.
Scratch: Scratch is a fantastic tool for getting into programming, even for very young kids. It features drag-and-drop coding blocks and a slew of tools for creating and animating your own sprites.
Javascript, HTML, & CSS: These are the tools for making stuff happen online. Each session we present a short tutorial to present new concepts, build skills.
CoderDojo is a global non-profit organization focused on helping youth ages seven to seventeen learn to code, build websites, create apps or a game, and explore technology in an informal, safe, creative, and innovative environment.
Please arrive at 9:45 AM to get checked in and seated. All ages will need a parent or guardian to sign a waiver. Children aged 13 and under require a parent or guardian to be present during the session.
All skillsets are welcome! Including NO EXPERIENCE. Those with more advanced knowledge will be assisted in creating more advanced projects.
