Director of Workforce Initiatives

The KC Tech Council (KCTC) is a non-profit, membership organization which serves as the voice of the Kansas City tech community. In tech, talent is currency. It is critical to grow the tech talent pipeline in Kansas City, and our Director of Workforce Initiatives will lead KCTC’s efforts to do just that. 

Responsibilities of this critical role includes, but not limited to, driving business development outreach for our tech apprenticeship program (Apprenti), identifying regional and civic partnerships to build a strong candidate pipeline, and developing opportunities to connect the tech industry with all elements of the tech talent pipeline, including the K-12 and higher education space. 

The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of the region's workforce development infrastructure, extensive experience in working with the employer community and will have a demonstrated record of supporting diverse and under-served populations.

Core Responsibilities & Qualifications Include: 

Tech Apprenticeship 

  • Champion the Apprenti program as its key ambassador in the business community throughout the Kansas City MSA, Missouri and Kansas

  • Identify and meet with executives from prospective Apprenti employer partners both within the KCTC membership and outside of it

  • Successfully onboard new employers to the Apprenti KC program

  • Meet or exceed key program adoption metrics outlined by KCTC leadership

  • Perform high-level account management with strategic employers

  • Publicly deliver presentations about Apprenti and KCTC’s workforce initiatives

  • Identify partnerships with regional civic organizations to expand Apprenti

  • Support Apprenti KC’s compliance with applicable federal and state regulations for apprenticeship programs

  • Lead Apprenti KC’s efforts to recruit diverse candidates for apprenticeship positions

  • Build and maintain close relationships and partnerships with varied stakeholders in the talent ecosystem

  • Drive broad awareness with potential job seekers as well as proactively engage key constituency/stakeholder groups who have access to pools of candidates [e.g., current training providers, 2-yr community colleges, high school vocational program leaders, military veterans groups, WIBs, community organizations, etc.]

Workforce Initiatives 

  • Serve as the lead in the development and delivery of all other KCTC workforce programs, including those in the K-12, higher education and talent acquisition space

  • Utilize the KC Tech Council Workforce Advisory Council to identify other workforce initiatives to support the industry and member organizations

  • Present on workforce initiatives to KCTC Board of Directors and Industry Leadership Council on a regular basis

  • Identify and advocate for local and regional financial support (grants, awards, sponsorship) of the program to ensure the continuous delivery and sustainability of services

Required Qualifications

  • BA or equivalent relevant experience

  • 5+ years of total experience with at least 3 years spent in a business development, HR/talent, or workforce-focused role

  • Experience in technology sector and thorough understanding of technology hiring and tech roles beneficial

  • Demonstrated success in stakeholder relationship management with comfort presenting to executive level technology professionals 

  • A passion for increasing diversity and equity within the technology community

  • Experience building relationships within the c-suite

  • Experience and proficiency working with multiple stakeholders including government, education and private sector

  • Comfortable working with a high-performance, collaborative, constructive peer group in a dynamic environment

  • Excellent verbal and written communication and collaboration skills with exceptional attention to detail

  • Experience with budget management and achieving target performance metrics

  • Proficient using technology as a management reporting tool and experience working with information technology systems

  • Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and a commitment to, and passion for, working in a mission-driven organization

  • Experience working with military and diverse populations, accelerated learning platforms and/or education or apprenticeship programs

  • Experience or knowledge of registered apprenticeship as a system preferred

  • Successful completion of background check is required
