Director of Business Development - Digital Infrastructure

Job Summary

The Director of Business Development is responsible for leading business development, communications, and stakeholder relations for strategic infrastructure projects. This role focuses on identifying, structuring, and securing opportunities in digital infrastructure and related sectors while acting as a connector between public relations and government relations. The Director will drive growth through external stakeholder management, client engagement, overseeing development of marketing and sales collateral, market analysis, and partnership development, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives and financial targets.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute marketing and sales strategies for data centers, and other related infrastructure projects. Related infrastructure could include: power supply for the data center, water/wastewater, and/or fiber.
  • Lead community engagement and public relations strategies.
  • Coordinate with local, state, and government officials in collaboration with Black & Veatch Government Affairs team.
  • Lead the development of marketing and sales collateral.   
  • Identify and cultivate relationships with key clients, investors, and partners. 
  • Lead negotiations for selling data center sites to customers and building strategic partnerships. 
  • Responsible for sourcing, managing, and driving deals to close. 
  • Ensure compliance with legal, financial, and regulatory requirements. 
  • Monitor industry trends and competitive landscape to identify new opportunities and inform strategy. 
  • Direct Site Origination team to source sites in target regions in alignment with client strategy. 
  • Represent the company at industry events and public events to enhance visibility. 
  • Collaborate with Project Finance, Operations, Energy, Legal, and Marketing teams to structure and deliver successful transactions. 
  • Provide leadership and mentorship to team members. 
  • Establish KPIs and track progress against business development goals. 
  • Prepare executive-level reports and presentations for senior leadership. 

Management Responsibilities

Supervises work of others. Responsible for hiring, discipline, and pay administration of their subordinates.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Engineering, or related field (MBA preferred). 
  • 10+ years in business development, origination, public relations, government affairs, or sales within infrastructure sectors. 
  • Proven track record of closing complex deals and managing strategic partnerships. 
  • Experience and relationships with data center owner/operators .
  • Strong negotiation and relationship management skills. 
  • Excellent communication and executive presentation abilities. 
  • Ability to lead cross-functional teams in a fast-paced environment.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in related field required.

Work Environment/Physical Demands

  • Up to 40% travel, typically within US and Canada.
  • Typical office environment: sitting, standing, computer usage for extended periods of time.
