Motion Design Director

Reporting directly to the Executive Creative Director –Content,  the Motion Design Director will assist our Creative Studio team with day-to-day project research and execution. The main function of this role is to come up with creative ideas and translate them technically (and practically), providing innovative solutions which are content based. The Motion Design Director analyzes a user experience through a behavioral lens, can identify and can analyze current and future animation and technology trends. This person is well versed in the ideation and visual design of campaigns across multiple media and creating storytelling within the overall marketing mix. The Motion Design Director an experienced content creator, with an ability to develop robust concepts and prototypes, all the way through to polished final products, and is passionate about creating engaging experiences.


ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES/FUNCTIONS may include but are not limited to:

  • Research and recommend strategic and creative insights for prospective clients’ experiences
  • Work with Project Management team to define project scopes and help create a cross-functional content project plan, budget and deadlines for prospective clients.
  • Participate in brainstorming sessions to create conceptual design, design detailing, and branding packages
  • Create technology-driven, project-based solutions with speed and quality, with an emphasis on content, motion design, and editorial development, while ensuring solutions align with project Leadership team direction and feedback
  • Assist with designing storyboards, prototypes, animatics, and motion graphics/animated content
  • Contribute to client presentations and communications as assigned
  • Manage project quality assurance and agility - testing and review of output, reviewing outputted deliverables against scope, and giving input and incorporating recommendations for process improvement and best practices
  • Provide and maintain project status and feedback - liaising with development teams, designers, and staff to provide accurate updates
  • Stay updated on popular culture, trends and industry news and incorporates where relevant
  • Review burn rates of total budgets to ensure department is on track to hit forecasting numbers per month with committed work and proactively make adjustments if needed based on this data
  • Encourage and guide team members in role and career development through regular performance feedback and coaching


  • Proficient with high-end motion design principles and techniques with traditional animation skills a plus
  • Possess a strong understanding of motion design, animation, live-action production, editorial, visual design, branding, positioning development, marketing plans, development needs, timeline and roadmap planning, and reporting
  • Has a clear understanding and previous use of a range of animation tools, processes, and outcomes
  • Can proactively identify potential project opportunities or threats
  • Is a problem-solver who leads decisively with sound judgement and business sensibility
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills demonstrated through comfort in presenting work and actively gathering feedback, both internally and with clients
  • Excellent organizational, time management, and multitasking capabilities 
  • Has an aptitude for creative business and marketing solutions
  • Can self-manage while managing assigned teams and multiple simultaneous projects
  • Must have critical attention to detail at all times
  • Sound judgement, business sensibility, and discretion required

  • Bachelor’s degree (B.A. or B.F.A) in Graphic Design, Motion Design, Media Arts, Animation Visual Communications, or related field- OR equivalent work experience based on portfolio
  • A minimum of 8 years’ experience working in content production environments, focused on hands-on content production
  • A minimum of 4 years’ experience managing a content production team
  • Experience with various software programs used in the field for animation, content development, editorial, and rapid prototyping including Adobe Creative Suite – primarily Adobe After Effects, Premiere, Photoshop and Illustrator.  Working knowledge of 3D applications is a plus including Cinema 4D, and Unreal
  • Proficiency with 3D applications in a 3D development pipeline is a plus
