Sr Project Development Manager

Job Summary

The Sr. Project Development Manager will be responsible for the development project management of solar photovoltaic, wind, data infrastructure and/or other infrastructure asset development projects from site identification through project acquisition across a portfolio of projects or one or two complex projects at a time. Projects may include intricate deal structure, an uncommon technology solution, or a global component. Will also provide guidance to Project Development Manager(s).

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage all aspects of solar/wind/infrastructure project development from greenfield origination (or acquisition) to start of construction or project acquisition for complex projects or a portfolio of projects.
  • Responsible for project management and milestone advancement for project development.
  • Optimizing project value within the expectations and limitations of potential long-term owners
  • Identification, quantification, and management of risks within the expectations of Sr. Leadership, equity investors, and lenders.
  • Leadership of regularly scheduled meetings to coordinate broad communication of project events, issues, and challenges across an integrated, multidisciplinary team of colleagues. Guide team resources towards prioritized efforts, while creating structure and accountability across team workflow. Orchestrate input and participation from a diverse group of internal subject matter experts.
  • Track project level progress, risks, opportunities, and economics. Provide insightful analysis and reporting to management.
  • Drive decisions and prioritize resource deployment based on a deep understanding of schedule dependencies and economic impact.
  • Manage consultants, external stakeholders, and other third parties to ensure project success.
  • Management of relationships with key external counterparties at transmission operators, EPC companies, consultants, O&M companies, landowners, and development partners to facilitate project advancement through the application, study, negotiation, and execution phases.
  • Lead the negotiation of interconnection agreements.
  • Build on and improve strategy for the filtering of site acquisition targets to minimize cost and risk.
  • Analyze merits and risks of project acquisition targets and new market entry assessment.
  • Conduct due-diligence and analysis on new opportunities (acquisitions, partnerships, proposals).
  • Lead investor acquisition due diligence processes by answering investor questions, maintaining Q&A logs, and directing data room buildout. 
  • Coordinate a wide variety of internal and external consultants to advance maturity of project development.
  • Create and manage project development budget and schedule.
  • Run Requests for Proposal processes to obtain EPC and O&M pricing.
  • Coordinate with finance team to supply and review project finance model inputs.
  • Organize and present project information at public hearings when required to obtain local approvals or permits. 
  • Provide direction to Project Development Manager(s) regarding best development project management practices.
  • Create new or improve existing processes related to development project management. 

Management Responsibilities

Supervises work of others. Responsible for hiring, discipline, and pay administration of their subordinates.

Preferred Qualifications

5+ years of Renewables, Energy, and/or Data Infrastracture Development experience preferred.

 

Preferred skills:

  • Proven experience with land acquisition, title, minerals, permitting, environmental, interconnection, and power marketing aspects of renewable and/or data infrastructure project development.
  • Successful track record of managing complex projects in renewable energy and/or data infrastructure.
  • Extensive knowledge of the full-cycle of utility-scale renewable power generation, distributed generation, wind, data centers, and/or fiber development.
  • Extensive knowledge of interconnection, permitting, real estate, state/federal regulation, utility procurement goals, politics, law and other issues that impact development of infrastructure projects in at least two regional markets.
  • Has the experience to quickly identify critical flaws on early-stage projects.
  • Proactively anticipates and finds solutions to potential problems. 
  • Solid understanding of economic drivers within our business.
  • Concisely frame issues by providing context, analysis, recommendations and risk/benefit tradeoffs, both in written and verbal format, to project teams and to senior management.
  • Create control and influence over the costs, terms, and schedules of key project milestones that are heavily dependent on external counterparties, often without strong commercial recourse.
  • Strong understanding of the relationships within a project schedule in order to prioritize teams’ resource allocation.
  • Highly resourceful and able to design process for the advancement of project milestones and navigate through key risks where little structure is established.
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Office suite tools, including Microsoft Project, as well as Google Earth.
  • Independent self-starter who can meet deadlines and deliver quality products with minimal oversight.
  • Substantial ability to recognize opportunities, identify and evaluate risks in a development context as well as effectively communicate the foregoing.
  • Ability to manage a large workload, often providing support to processes managed by colleagues, while prioritizing tasks and effectively juggling competing deadlines.
  • Detail-oriented with a strong sense of personal responsibility and ownership of work product.

  • Has an ability to effectively communicate complex ideas.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in related field required.
